Frequently Ask Questions

Q: I'm not sure what I want my site to look like. How can I get some ideas?
A: I have found the most successful way is to do a Google search on businesses similar to yours and see what they are doing. As typical searches will bring up sites close to your locale you can gain many new ideas by doing searches in other locations. For instance if your business is catering you could do a search on "catering san diego" or "catering boston". An additional idea is to look at a high end template site such as Template Monster. But when looking at template sites you should keep a couple of things in mind. The templates are designed such that they stand out amongst all the other templates to catch your attention by making overly heavy use of flash and graphic images which generally have to be scaled back considerably to produce a useful site.
Q: I don't have a lot of images available - do you have any suggestions?
In many cases you can simply take some pictures with your phone of things like you or an employee sitting behind a desk or talking on the phone. If you have physical products, pictures of them (even the container box) always work. Another area to look are commercial image sites such as iStockphoto Most of the pictures and images there can be used in the smallest size available and cost only a few dollars each.
